Nikolay Tsyrempilov

Associate professor of the Department of History, Philosophy and Religious Studies, Nazarbayev University, Doctor in History. Nikolay is the main initiator and PI of the project. During the project’s implementation, he led a number of field expeditions, conducted research in Russia’s and Kazakhstani archives.

Zohra Beben

Instructor of the Department of Anthropology and Sociology, Nazarbayev University. Zohra is an expert in digital humanities and social sciences. Responsible for development of the electronic atlas architecture and website structure.

Ulan Bigozhin, PhD

Assistant Professor of the Department of Anthropology and Sociology, Nazarbayev University. Within the framework of this project, Ulan Bigozhin is researching Isabek-Ishan Mazar complex, Beket-Ata shrine in Mangistau region, Kalzhan madrasah in Kyzyl-Orda region and Kunanbay mosque in Karaganda region.


Rozaliya Garipova, PhD

Assistant Professor of the Department of History, Philosophy and Religious Studies, Nazarbayev University. In this project, Rozaliya is researching a wooden Tatar mosque in Akkolsk, East Kazakhstan region. In addition, she studies the written heritage of Semey Muslims.

Daniel Scarborough, PhD

Assistant Professor of the Department of History, Philosophy and Religious Studies, Nazarbayev University. He is a specialist in the history of Russia and Orthodox Christianity. As part of this project, Daniel is researching the Cathedral of Christ the Savior in Uralsk and the Life-Giving Spring in Almaty region.

Paula Dupuy, PhD

Assistant Professor of the Department of Anthropology and Sociology, Nazarbayev University. She is doing archaeological research of Bronze Age cultures in Kazakhstan. As part of the project, Paula is exploring the objects of Semeytau and Kokentau in the East Kazakhstan region.


Aydin Zhuniskhanov

Teaching assistant of the Department of Kazakh Language and Turkology. Aidyn is a researcher of the Bronze and early Iron Ages. In the project, he is a member of the archaeological group and takes part in exploration of of Kokentau and Semeytau sites.

Zhandos Kerimkulov

Senior Lecturer of the School of Engineering, Nazarbayev University. IT and space monitoring specialist. In this project, he is the main IT developer.

Temirlan Tileubek

A 2nd-year student of Master of Arts in Eurasian Studies program. In the project, he updates the database and manages events.
